Summary

In a global context marked by rising violence, forced migration, the climate emergency, and the spread of misinformation, it is becoming increasingly urgent to promote a citizenry committed to defending human rights and building peace. In response to this need, the Foundation for Justice is promoting a Global Citizenship Education project focused on armed conflicts in the Global South, with a human rights-based approach and a culture of peace. Using the case of Colombia as a reference, the initiative seeks to generate critical awareness about the complexity of these conflicts, their structural causes, their social consequences, and the shared responsibility that the Global North also has.

Through a diverse program of activities, the project creates spaces for reflection and debate open to the citizens of Valencia, highlighting the voices of experts, activists, social organizations, and, especially, the testimonies of people affected by conflict situations. This promotes a deeper understanding of the dynamics of war and its impacts, but also of the possibilities for social transformation through citizen participation and networking. The production and dissemination of testimonial audiovisual materials plays a central role, not only as a tool for raising awareness but also as a means of empowering those who have directly experienced these realities.

The project places a special focus on youth, both Valencian and Colombian, through educational workshops, participatory audiovisual creation processes, and a day of reflection specifically aimed at this group. It also incorporates actions to ensure accessibility and inclusion for individuals and groups in vulnerable situations, while strengthening alliances with public institutions, social organizations, and key stakeholders in the field of human rights. This initiative runs in parallel with the 16th Humans Fest, which this year addresses the topic of armed conflict and the culture of peace, expanding its impact and social reach. Through all of this, the project seeks to contribute to strengthening a critical, global, and diverse citizenry capable of influencing the promotion of public policies aimed at peace and social justice, leaving no one behind.
