The Montañes Foundation maintains the legacy of Mr. Juan de Dios Montañés after his death. His main works during his life were the Godella School House, placing emphasis on its educational nature, and the Ruzafa nursery and adult schools.

More than 100 years of history of the Foundation

Since its creation in 1890, which was renamed the Foundation in the 1940s, until the present, there have been many people, some whose names appear in the archives and others anonymous, all of them important, who have been working to ensure that the Foundation could fulfill the purposes for which it had been created.

In the Godella School-House, the Oblates were first, then the Villa Teresita Institution. Currently, when reality and social progress and the change in mentalities have eliminated the meaning that an institution of this type had, the Foundation has wanted to maintain the spirit of this founding purpose by collaborating materially with the Villa Teresita Institution that carries out a work of integration between marginalized people related to prostitution. The old School House, still known in the town of Godella as Villa Teresita, was acquired by the City Council to form part of the social and cultural equipment of the town.

At the Ruzafa School, first the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul were working, then, recently, the Secular Institute of the Workers of the Cross. In the 1930s, after the construction of the new building, about 600 male and female students attended the schools.

In recent years, the Foundation has considered a readjustment and expansion of its purposes, initiating a series of projects, of which the rehabilitation of the Ruzafa building is part, which should allow effective action adapted to the needs posed by reality. current social.

Along these lines, the Foundation plans to carry out, as an educational center, a quality educational offer, with objectives of individual development and also promotion and social integration, with a compensatory nature for initial inequalities, aimed especially at boys and girls and young people from disadvantaged sectors or those at risk of marginalization or social exclusion.

Likewise, the Foundation It is proposed to promote or support intervention programs of a more general nature in the area of the Valencian Community with these same objectives: programs for minors, education and development cooperation., etc.

Another of the priority objectives that the Foundation sets is promote technical and professional training aimed at labor integration, especially among sectors with special difficulties in achieving this integration: women, people with disabilities, groups at risk of marginalization, etc. considering that training is an essential instrument to enable access to a job and that this access is essential for real social insertion.

Finally, to the extent of its possibilities, the Foundation intends to work on a line of support for NGOs, cultural promotion, development of sociological research, focused mainly on the problem that has been previously pointed out, of educational research, focused on the improvement of vocational training, especially that aimed at the aforementioned sectors, and in general, activities that can promote greater well-being and social development.

Thanks to this agreement, both entities will join forces for our common purposes.
