The activist, journalist and defender of women's and children's rights in Afghanistan, Malala Maiwand, was murdered on December 10 in Jalalabad (Nangarhar), according to the Afghan government, when she left her house on the way to the radio television station where she worked. .
The activist was surprised by a group of armed men who opened fire in a shootout in which, in addition to the activist, her driver, Mohammad Tahir, also died. After what happened, a subsidiary of the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The president of FxJ, José María Tomás i Tío, wanted to make public the condemnation of these events: “To the seriousness of the murder is added the cowardice of men who have to form a group and arm themselves against a defenseless woman who was only defending the rights of women".
The Foundation for Justice (FxJ) works for the promotion and defense of Human Rights and, true to its motto – "We want peace. We work for Justice” –, wants to denounce the murder of Malala Maiwand. The foundation believes that, in these times, it is incomprehensible and unthinkable how a group of armed men can end the life of an activist for fighting every day for the rights of women and children in Afghanistan.
Given the current situation, FxJ defends that the defense of Human Rights should not only be a task of those most developed countries, but should be a task promoted by all governments. The foundation believes that the defense of human rights should be mandatory without reservation throughout the world because it is a universal good.
With this attack, there are now three murders of journalists since November. Afghanistan is considered one of the most dangerous countries for journalists to carry out their work, according to the Reporters Without Borders report, and is ranked 122 out of 180 in the world ranking of dangerous countries against press freedom 2020.
