GENDER AND OPEN GOVERNMENT

In order to promote citizens' knowledge of the principles of transparency and open government, at Fundación por la Justicia we are carrying out a project to increase the capacity for citizen participation through access to information from public institutions from a perspective of gender. We consider that identifying trends and possible inequalities based on the data that are published is essential to be able to define public policies that guarantee equality and non-discrimination.

To do this, it is necessary to have updated, quality and disaggregated data that takes into account the characteristics of people. Incorporating the gender perspective in the publication of data is an essential condition to make visible realities that would otherwise remain hidden. In this way, the quality of the information would be guaranteed and the analysis and monitoring process would be facilitated to evaluate the impact of the policies on the situations that need to be improved.

Within the framework of the project «Gender and Data. Promotion of the gender perspective in open government", financed by the Valencia City Council, Fundación por la Justicia organizes a Conference on Gender and Open Government, in collaboration with the Pagoda Chair of the University of Valencia. The objective is to jointly reflect and share the results of the study on open data from a gender perspective carried out by Professor Carmen Montalbá Ocaña and Ana María Ioanas.
