TITLE: Training in community-based associative mediation for low-income individuals in Hermosillo (MX)

Funder: Generalitat Valenciana
Grant amount: €79,998.00
Start date: to be determined
Duration: 12 months

Program Description

The project aims to strengthen social cohesion and community justice in urban and peri-urban contexts marked by severe inequalities in access to basic services such as water, electricity, and transportation. Based on a participatory assessment, it was identified that these deficiencies generate high levels of social conflict, particularly affecting women and other vulnerable groups. Community mediation is proposed as an accessible and effective tool for peacefully transforming these conflicts, promoting citizen empowerment and collective self-management.

The intervention focuses on the formation of community mediation networks, The project has trained 250 people—mostly women—as community mediators, and has also helped create local teams and a citizen network connected with public authorities and the media. The project incorporates a cross-cutting gender perspective based on human rights, ensuring balanced participation, women's leadership, and the inclusion of traditionally excluded groups. All phases of the project are participatory, with strong local roots and ongoing coordination between the participating organizations and the beneficiary population.

Finally, the project focuses on the sustainability and replicability The results are achieved through the consolidation of local capacities, the institutionalization of community mediation in partner organizations, and the sharing of lessons learned and best practices. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Fifth Master Plan of Valencian Cooperation, the initiative seeks not only to resolve specific conflicts but also to transform the dynamics of coexistence, strengthen the social fabric, and generate a lasting impact on the defense of rights and community cohesion in Hermosillo.

We raise them because the suffering of the Palestinian population is unbearable. We raise them because in Gaza, with each passing day, something...
