Description
Since 2001, the World Campaign for Education has celebrated the Global Action Week for Education (SAME). It's a week, where 124 countries that work to guarantee the right to education, mobilize to draw the attention of the educational community, the media, society in general and especially political representatives to the need to make the right to quality education real and effective for everyone in the world.
In 2017, SAME was held from April 24 to 29 in Valencia, through different street activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of the right to education. On this occasion, the GCE not only mobilized to demand that governments adopt the necessary political and financing measures to guarantee quality, inclusive and equitable education, but also to do so in a transparent manner, being accountable for their commitments to citizenship and ensuring spaces for civil society participation.
Under the motto “I ask to speak for education”, the Global Campaign for Education drew attention to the importance of active participation of citizens, especially the educational communities, boys and girls, when guaranteeing compliance with the right to quality education for all.
Throughout the year Fundación por la Justicia, together with more than 150 educational centers and non-formal education groups, have been working on teaching units around the 2030 Education Agenda and the importance of both government accountability and citizen participation in the development of these processes. Fundación por la Justicia, collaborates in the acts of demand in the street, carrying the figure of a hand with the index raised to ask to speak for education, as well as banners with slogans that collected their requests/opinions related to compliance with the Agenda. Education 2030/SDG4.
The World Campaign for Education (GCE) is an international coalition made up of NGOs, educational unions, schools and social movements of a very diverse nature that mobilizes to demand full compliance with the international commitments signed by States to guarantee the access to quality education for all people in the world. Foundation for Justice is part of it.
