HUMANS FEST 2025
1.- OBJECTIVES
The International Film and Human Rights Festival – HUMANS FEST, held in Valencia since 2008, is one of the main activities promoted by Foundation for JusticeThis festival aims to bring audiovisual culture closer to both the general public and particularly vulnerable audiences, as well as to promote the defence of human rights and denounce their violations throughout the world.

The 16th edition of HUMANS FEST will be held from MAY 29 to JUNE 7, 2025.

4.- SECTIONS and AWARDS
- 'Humans Fic' Section:
Award for Best International Fiction Feature Film: 1.200 €.
Prize for Best International Fiction Short Film: 400 €.
Feature films will be considered to be 60 minutes or more in length and short films will be limited to 30 minutes or less.
- Humans Doc' section
Award for Best International Feature Documentary: 1.200 €.
Prize for Best International Documentary Short Film: 400 €.
Feature films will be considered to be 60 minutes or more in length and short films will be limited to 30 minutes or less.
- Section 'Curt i Barrejat'.:
Section for Valencian documentary and fiction short films dealing with human rights. Those short films whose crew is mainly Valencian will be considered as Valencian.
The purpose of this award is to promote local audiovisual culture committed to human rights. Short films may not exceed 30 minutes in length.
Prize for Best Valencian Short Film: 400 €.
- 'Building peace in a minute':
Microfilms of up to 1'30'' (credits included) that address any aspect of human rights within the theme of “Armed conflicts and culture of peace” and have been made by students.
This is a traditional section of the Humans Fest that aims to promote human rights and audiovisual culture among Valencian students. It is carried out through agreements with schools, institutes and universities in the Valencian Community as well as audiovisual schools, although it is also possible to participate individually as long as it is proven that one is pursuing formal studies.
Building Peace in a Minute Award: €250
Within the framework of the festival there will be other awards without financial compensation. For example, the EDAV Award, awarded by the Valencià Audiovisual Writers Association, for the best Valencian short film script.
5.- THEMATICS
New for 2025, all competitive categories of the Humans Fest 2025 will accept works on any topic related to the promotion and defense of human rights, with the exception of the “Building Peace in a Minute” category, in which only micro-films addressing topics related to “armed conflicts and the culture of peace” will be accepted, as described in point 4 of these rules.
Thus, works whose theme is related to human rights, as set out in the Universal Declaration and the defence of these rights, with an emphasis on an intersectional perspective, may be entered into the competition in the categories of international documentary feature film, international fiction feature film, international documentary short film, international fiction short film and in the “Curt i barrejat” section.
6.- REGISTRATION
Film registration for the Festival will be done through the platform Festhome (www.festhome.com) and will cost €2. The registration period for the categories of international documentary feature film, international fiction feature film, international documentary short film, international fiction short film and in the “Curt i barrejat” section will take place from December 30, 2024 to March 20, 2025.
In the case of the 'Building peace in a minute' section, registration will be free and the date Registration deadline will be April 30. The submission of the works will be done through Festhome (www.festhome.com) or by sending the works by email and with acknowledgment of receipt to the organizing team of Humans Fest 2025 at the email humansfest@fundacionporlajusticia.org.
7.- PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
All projects submitted to the official section must meet the following requirements:
- That production is after January 1, 2024
- They must not have been presented in the city of Valencia, in public cinemas, DVD/BlueRay, video or television. They must not have been broadcast on the Internet with free access.
- The media of the copies must be adapted to the technical requirements of each section of the festival.
- The works must be subtitled in English, Spanish or Valencian/Catalan.
8.- JURIES
The Festival management will appoint the juries for each section, who will act with complete independence and whose function will be to award the prizes indicated above after viewing and analyzing the different screenings. The jury for each section will be made up of experts in audiovisual and/or in the defense of human rights who will combine artistic and social criteria.
For the section 'Building peace in a minute' the verdict will be given by the public (popular jury).
9.- WORKS ADMITTED
If the film is selected, it will be an essential requirement to send copies in the following formats:
- For feature films, the copy must be sent in physical DCP format. The copy must be sent by post or courier and will be the responsibility of the participant. The return details must be included, which will be covered by the festival.
- For short films, submissions must be in MP4 format and must be sent electronically.
If the film is not in Spanish, the Spanish subtitle text must be sent in advance in .srt format via a downloadable link or attached file, so that electronic subtitling can be prepared.
The selected films cannot be withdrawn by their producers and/or distributors once the selection has been published. The works may be screened in special sessions of the festival with the prior consent of the authors.
The Festival may take a sample of the selected works to use in any media for promotional purposes within the framework of HUMANS FEST (printed program, press, Internet, social networks, trailer, etc.)
Microfilms participating in the “Building peace in a minute” category must include a document with the name of the educational center, the name of the training and the course in which the creators are enrolled, the title of the microfilm, a synopsis and the names of the members of the team that created each work presented.
10.- PRIZES
Prizes will be paid by bank transfer. The amount of the prizes described (including VAT) will be subject to the corresponding withholdings and taxes, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation.
The decisions of both the Selection Committee and the Jury are final. The winning projects will be announced at the Closing Gala of the 16th International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia.
The films that win awards must specify the award won at the International Film and Human Rights Festival - HUMANS FEST in all their posters, communications, publicity and in the titles of the copies released in Spain both in their theatrical exhibition and in their release for domestic format (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) and other platforms.
11.- ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The submission of entries implies full acceptance of these rules and the interpretation and application of the same is the responsibility of the festival organisers. 12.- PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
Those interested in taking part in this call for entries must expressly give their consent to the processing of their personal data (indicating this in the Festhome form) and to their publication in any medium used for the communication of the results and for the correct preparation and execution of this call for entries. Failure to provide such consent will result in inadmissibility to this call for entries, as it is governed by the principle of publicity.
In accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council as well as Organic Law 3/2018, of 5 December, on Personal Data Protection and guarantee of digital rights, the data provided by the interested party will be used, solely and exclusively, for the purposes foreseen in this procedure for the processing and management of these grants.
No data will be passed on to third parties unless legally obliged to do so.
In all matters not expressly provided for in matters of personal data protection, the provisions of Organic Law 3/2018, of 5 December, on the Protection of Personal Data and the guarantee of digital rights shall apply.
