Laboratory for the development of audiovisual projects in the field of HRDs


The Fundación por la Justicia and the International Film and Human Rights Festival, Humans Fest, announce the first edition of their laboratory for the creation of audiovisual projects on human rights. 

1.- OBJECTIVES 

The activity is aimed at professionals and students with the objective of encouraging the writing of human rights scripts, promoting creation and supporting authors in the creative process through masterclasses and personalised tutoring. 

2.- PARTICIPANTS 

The call is open to people of legal age, of any nationality, resident in the Valencian Community, who can accredit studies or experience related to film and/or audiovisual creation. 

3.- PROJECTS 

Eligible projects are projects of fiction/documentary/animation/animation/experimental short films (hybrid projects welcome) on the defence of human rights at the script stage. 

4.- REGISTRATION

Those interested in participating must submit a single short film scriptwriting project with a human rights perspective, to be written solely or in collaboration with other authors, in Spanish or Valencian.

Registration can be made through the ONLINE FORM available on the HUMANS FEST website, providing the required information and material. 

  • MATERIAL: obligatory synopsis plus a script (preferred) and/or an explanatory report and/or a plot synopsis. Optionally, additional material (technical specifications, budget, dossiers, etc.) may be added to the form.

Only one project per participant is allowed. Projects can be submitted by the director, screenwriter, and/or producer of them. 

The deadline for registration is 19 November (inclusive)

5.- SELECTION OF PROJECTS

Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST, with the support of a committee of experts, will select 4 projects which will participate in the masterclasses and tutorials, which will take place in the city of Valencia. 

The finalists will be contacted personally and the list will be published on the website and social media of Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST. 

Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST will cover the costs of accommodation and half board for the duration of the laboratory for a maximum of one participant per project, with the possibility of receiving a grant of 100 euros for travel expenses.

6.- DEVELOPMENT OF LABORATORY ACTIVITIES

The laboratory will take place during the weekend of Friday 1 to Sunday 3 December. The following activities are planned over the 3 days: 

  • 2 masterclasses on aspects of creation and/or production focused on HRDs.
  • 2 sessions one-to-one with the selected projects.
  • A group session of the projects in preparation to the pitch.
  • The laboratory will end with a Pitch session open to production companies from the Valencian Community. 

7.- TITLES OF CREDIT 

When a project selected and participating in HUMANS LAB is produced, the authors undertake that the production company will include the following in the credits: "Project developed in HUMANS LAB 2023 organised by Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST" and then add the logo of the programme, of Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST, which will be provided by the organisation in different formats and resolutions. 

8.- COMMITMENT OF THE PARTICIPANTS

Participation in HUMANS LAB implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions and that the participants accept their commitment to attend during the dates of the activities. 

9.- INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS 

The projects presented, as far as their authorship is concerned, will be the property of their authors, and they will be responsible, before third parties, for any claim that may arise from them, releasing Fundación por la Justicia and HUMANS FEST from any responsibility to this effect.
