MANIFEST OF THE CIVIL SOCIETY IN FAVOR OF VERAÇ, LLIURE AND CONTRASTED INFORMATION

The civil society, gathered in this Manifest with the list of organizations, associations and institutions, together with individuals who take advantage of it, expresses its fatigue with the lies, the misdeeds and the misinformation that seem to have become known in the communicative space. A practice that, in recent decades, in the digital society and in a context of political polarization and exacerbated nationalism, has become an industry that travels the planet and is used in social contexts and in political life in a systematic way. We intend to establish a current of opinion that reflects the yes of the organized citizenry, that stops the belief that sends, from the social frameworks and other countries, to its supply and greatness, in order to materialize the political debate.

We are aware that we are subject to a veritable pandemic of lies, a constant cataract of news assumptions that are not true, false data that are sold as authentic, and that complicate things that clearly define deception: saying, inventing, transferring something that is not true with a specific intention. We are aware of the difficulty posed by the extraordinary power of technology, possessed of a capacity for infinite diffusion and multiplication, the generalization of which is given a false appearance of seeing itself. As the peers of Nazism are going to establish, a thousand-times-repeated lie is converted into truth. Another deception because, in reality, one lie repeated a thousand times is multiplied into three thousand lies reproduced ad nauseam.

The organized civil society must exercise responsibilities that are not limited only to traditional questions. Els nous reptes ens directixen cap a nous territories. One of its main functions should be to strengthen dialogue and communication, based on evidence and facts, to create a robust citizenry and protect the most vulnerable people. Traditional communication techniques have continued, and must continue, as a key role in a democratic society in informing and generating opinion. As part of a state of rights, they are subject to a series of controls and conditions of legal type, which have demonstrated their effectiveness in guaranteeing the freedom of press and, at the moment, offering the safeguard of individual rights to the freedom of expression and publication.

The reality of the current moment requires a coexistence, under equal conditions, between traditional forms and new communication strategies. We consider it essential, therefore, that a common framework is regulated for the work of communication mitjans. For this reason, it is essential to apply and complement the Regulation of the Parliament and of the European Council 2024/1083 to approve any pass. The most recent media are the most vulnerable to the risk of misinformation. Most popular platforms are colonized by sensationalist stereotypes that, in some cases, only look for stimulating headlines or to obtain clickbaits through uncontrasted sources. It is now becoming a constant source of disinfection, especially in certain population groups that they use as the only communication channel.

From the organized civil society, there is a general crippling of the unit in front of this menagerie of threats, coming from organizations and anonymous power structures without scruples, which undermine rights that have cost many years to achieve. To top it all off, we propose a series of actions to deal with this situation:

  • Do not participate in chain of crimes or mitjans that they spread
  • Report all mitjans and publications that are based on lies
  • Carry out pedagogy on the risks involved in disseminating information
    truthful or contrasted
  • Offer formulas to avoid or minimize the consequences of the
    mentides

We know that these commitments only meant the beginning of a long journey that will not be easy. In some cases, the effort pays off in becoming a collective tavern. Do not forget that the force provided by the unity of citizenship grants legitimacy to build a better and clearer society, in which the rights of the social world do not continue to be supplanted by the lies and interests of the organizations that
They seek to alter democracy and coexistence for their own benefit.
