The Valencia International Film and Human Rights Festival, Humans Fest, organized by Fundación por la Justicia since 2009, enters the final stretch towards its closing, which will be held on Saturday, June 10 at night, when the award-winning works of this 14th edition will be announced. Until then, the last screenings of the Official Section will take place, including a premiere in Spain, and the closing of the film cycle organized with Isabel Coixet, who has received this year's honorary Pau i Justícia award.

LATEST SHORT FILMS AND LONG DOCUMENTARIES

The projections of some competitive categories come to an end. This is the case of short films, whose last session will be this Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at the SGAE Room Cultural Center, and the feature-length documentaries: When the waters gather will put the finishing touch on the Babel Cinemas, a work directed by Margarita Martínez that narrates the role of women in the peace process in Colombia and that Humans Fest has been able to bring to Valencia thanks to its collaboration agreement with the UN.

FICTION PREMIERE IN SPAIN

For its part, there are still two fiction feature films to conclude the Official Selection: Malikates, a French production that proposes a parable of female emancipation in Morocco with echoes of Telma and Louise, and A room of my own, a Georgian film that premieres in Spain within the framework of the festival and presents the story of Tina, a woman who begins to discover what it feels like to be free and able to make her own decisions after meeting her partner. floor.

Both films will be screened at Babel Cinemas: Malikates, on Thursday, June 8 at 8 p.m. and A room of my own, on Friday, June 9 at 10 p.m. The latter will also feature a subsequent discussion attended by two of the film's actresses.

THE FILMTECA GIVES FAREWELL TO THE “COIXET CYCLE”

The honorary award for Humans Fest has gone this year to the director Isabel Coixet, with whom a “author cycle” which consisted of four screenings in total. The last one will be this Friday, June 9, at 5 p.m., in The Film Library; where his most recent documentary will be shown, El sostre groc, which tells the story of the sexual abuse committed between 2001 and 2008 in the Lleida Theater Classroom. At the end, there will be a colloquium about why there has not been a #MeToo in Spain, in which two of the protagonists of the documentary will participate: Aida Flix and Cristina García.

FINAL FINISH OF PARALLEL PROGRAMMING

Humans Fest also promotes activities outside the halls, such as the “fresh cinema”, free screenings in different public spaces in the city. The last session will be on Friday, June 9, at 9:30 p.m., in the Plaza de la Ermita de Orriols, where a selection of short films from the Official Section will be screened. Likewise, the Vermouths Humans, relaxed meetings with human rights activists, will have a final meeting on Saturday, June 10, at 12 noon, in the MuVIM cafeteria. Women who cross different intersections beyond gender will participate in this meeting.

Humans Fest is part of the international Human Rights Film Network. Its 14th edition is celebrated thanks to the collaboration of the Conselleria de Cooperació, Diputació de València, Ajuntament de València, Institut Valencià de Cultura, Caixa Popular and Teika.
