The Humans Lab, the audiovisual creation laboratory launched by the International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, Humans Fest, organized by the Foundation for Justice since 2009, has announced that in its third edition it will have director Avelina Prat among its mentors this year.
Prat will host a meeting with participants and the public on Friday, December 12, as one of the opening activities of Humans Lab 2025, which runs until Sunday, December 14. This meeting is open to the public, but prior registration is required due to limited capacity. The master class will focus on aspects of creation, script analysis, and/or production related to human rights.
In addition, those selected to participate with their short film projects in Humans Lab will have the opportunity to enjoy a one-to-one tutored session with Avelina Prat, to whom they can present their ideas to receive suggestions for improvement.
FROM ARCHITECTURE TO FILM
An architect by training, Avelina Prat (1972), from Valencia, began her career in film as a script supervisor alongside acclaimed directors such as Fernando Trueba, Cesc Gay, David Trueba, and Lucile Hadzihalilovic. She has directed several short films and documentaries and has worked as a
programmer for Cinema Jove.
In 2022, she wrote and directed the feature film Vasil, which premiered at the Warsaw International Film Festival and won an award at SEMINCI. This year, with Una quinta portuguesa (Málaga Film Festival, BAFICI), she has become one of the most acclaimed directors and screenwriters in Spanish cinema. She is currently completing her festival run while continuing to captivate critics and audiences alike.
Prat's name thus joins that of other film professionals such as Almudena Carracedo (Emmy Award in 2008 for her documentary Made in LA), Carlos Marqués-Marcet (Goya Award for Best New Director 2015, Silver Spike in 2024 and several Gaudí awards), Estíbaliz Urresola (Goya Award and Gaudí Award for Best New Director 2024…) or the president of the Spanish Film Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, among others, who have participated in previous editions of Humans Lab.
