XIII HUMANS FEST 2022

 

PREAMBLE

The new edition of the Valencia International Film and Human Rights Festival, Humans Fest, will be held from June 9 to 18, 2022 in the city of Valencia with the following sections in competition:

 

OFFICIAL SECTION:

  • 'Humans Fic' section – €1000 (Fiction feature film)
  • 'Humans Doc' section – €1000 (Documentary feature film)
  • Short Films Section:
  • Section 'Curt i Barrejat'. International shorts of fiction and documentary genreTwo prizes will be awarded: Best Fiction Short – €350 and to Best documentary short – €350.
  • Section 'Acollida': Valencian short films section for human rights. financial prize of 350€
  • '1 minute, 1 border' section: Our traditional section "1 minute, 1 right" dedicated this year to the concept of borders. financial prize of 300€.

GENERAL RULES:

1. Only films whose themes are related to human rights may participate., particularly with the proposed axis for this edition of the International Film and Human Rights Festival: the right to migration and refuge.

    • We understand migration as a natural and global phenomenon and we want to move away from the dominant security paradigm with films that reveal the complexity of migration, from the causes: inequality, social and war conflicts, structural and gender violence, climate change... and the consequences : racism, xenophobia, diversity, integration challenges, diversity, multiculturalism,…
    • We prioritize new narratives about migration and an empowering view of migrated people that moves away from victimization and includes an intersectional perspective.
    • In the Collapsible Sectionof Valencian short films, the thematic axis opens to all human rights, included in the Universal Declaration.

2. All productions presented to the official section must be after June 1, 2020.

3. The works must be subtitled in English, Spanish or Valencian.

4. The call is open for the following sections.

  • Official Competitive Fiction and documentary feature films.
  • Short Film Competitive Official.
  • Official of Valencian short films.
  • One minute, One border.

The organization of the Humans Fest will determine the selection committees for each of the sections and their juries, which will be made up of members of the Festival and experts in the film genre, who will carry out their work according to the parameters of quality and creativity. previously set by the Festival Directorate.

For the section 'One minute, one border' the verdict will be awarded by the public (popular jury).

 

IMPORTANT DATES

    • Registration deadline for all sections, except  'One minute a border': April 22, 2022.
    • Registration deadline for the 'One minute a border' section: May 15, 2022.

SECTIONS

6. Official international competitive feature film section. HUMANS FIC. 

  • The Minimum duration of feature films will be 60 minutes and will address the main theme of the current edition: Migration in all its variants.
  • The film must be unprecedented in the city of Valencia.
  • An independent jury will determine the First Prize valued at €1000.
  • The screenwriters association EDAV will determine the award for the best script, without financial prize.
  • The inscription of projects will be of a nature gratuitous.

7. Official international competitive section for Documentary Feature Film. HUMANS DOC. 

  • The Minimum duration of the documentaries will be 60 minutes and will address the main axis of the current edition; Migration in all its variants.
  • The film must be unreleased in the city of Valencia.
  • An independent jury will determine the First Prize valued at €1000.
  • The inscription of projects will be of a nature gratuitous.

8. Official international competitive short film section. CURT I BARREJAT

  • The Maximum duration of short films will be 30 minutes and will address the main axis of the current edition; Migration in all its variants.
  • The film must be unprecedented in the city of Valencia.
  • An independent jury will determine the First Prize for Best Fiction Short Film valued at €350.
  • An independent jury will determine the First Prize for Documentary Short Film valued at €350.
  • The inscription of projects will be of a nature gratuitous.

9. Official competitive section of Valencian short films. ACOLLIDA.

  • They can only participate short films produced in the Valencian Community at least in a 30%.
  • The film must be unprecedented in the city of Valencia.
  • The maximum duration of the short films will be 30 minutes and will address the main axis of the current edition; Migration in all its variants.
  • An independent jury will determine the First Prize valued at €350.
  • The cost of inscription be gratuitous. If they wish and if they meet the requirements, production companies may simultaneously register their works in the international section and in the Valencian short film section but, if selected, it will only be screened in one of the sections.

10. One minute, one border

The 13th edition of the Humans Fest calls for a new edition of the award for microfilms made by educational centers.

  • They will be able to participate short films made in educational centers in the Valencian Community regulated and non-regulated education.
  • The maximum duration will be 1 minute 30 seconds, credits included, related to any aspect of border treatment.
  • The Deadline for receipt of projects will be May 15, 2022.
  • The prize be awarded by the public.
  • The cost of inscription be gratuitous.
  • Project submission can be done by sending the final copy by email, indicating the title of the work and its author. humans@humansfest.com.
  • The award for Best Project 'A minute a border' is endowed with 300 € and will be chosen by public vote during the Festival dates.
  • The award ceremony will become effective in the Humans Fest closing ceremony, June 18, 2022.

ACCEPTED WORKS

11. Accepted works

  • The Selected films cannot be withdrawn by their producers once the selection is published..
  • Producers/distributors must send a copy in DCP, BluRay or High Resolution, either online, to the festival headquarters along with a dossier of the work, three images of the film and a biofilmography of the director.

  • The works They may be screened in special sessions of the festival with prior consent of the authors.. The Festival may take a sample of the selected works to use in any media for promotional purposes within the framework of Humans Fest (printed program, press, Internet, social networks, trailer, etc.)

12. Accepted works

  • The natural or legal person who registers declares that he or she owns all the intellectual property rights of the work exhibited at the festival and the audiovisual material included in it (soundtrack, third-party images, etc.). The festival will not be responsible if this rule is breached.
  • The chosen films cannot be withdrawn by their producers once their selection has been announced.
  • Producers/distributors must send online or a copy in DCP, BluRay or High Resolution to the festival headquarters along with a dossier of the work, three images of the film and a biofilmography of the director with a photo. Send subtitles in English, Spanish or Catalan in a separate file in .srt format.
  • The festival will not be responsible for the costs of shipping the films. Any expenses generated by the shipping of the materials will be borne by the selected one. The festival is not responsible for any damage suffered by said materials during transport.

JURY

13.- Jury / Selection Committee:

  • The organization of the Humans Fest will determine the selection committees for each of the sections and their juries.
  • The jury will be made up of renowned personalities from the audiovisual media, culture and volunteering. Its members will be announced in due course before the festival takes place.
  • In the case of the 'One minute, one border' section, the verdict will be granted by popular vote in the manner indicated by the festival organization.
  • The decisions of both the Selection Committee and the Juries will be final.
  • The winning projects will be announced at the Closing Gala of the XIII Valencia International Film and Human Rights Festival.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

14. Acceptance of the bases:

  • The presentation of the works implies full acceptance of these rules and the interpretation and application of them corresponds to the organizers of the festival.
