For his part, the <\/span><b>Best Documentary Feature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has fallen into <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kenya<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Gisela Delgadillo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The event took place on the night of Saturday, June 10 at the MuVIM, where nearly 200 people from the cultural and social sphere gathered to accompany the presentation of the awards. Of the six films awarded by the juries, four are directed by women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>ABOUT THE WINNING WORKS IN FEATURE FILMS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ioseb &#039;Soso&#039; Bliadze is a Georgian director who has emerged in recent years. The script of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A room of my own<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she signs it with Taki Mumladze, who also plays the film&#039;s protagonist: Tina, a woman who has lost her way in life and rents a room to Megi, thanks to whom she discovers what it feels like to be free and capable. to make your own decisions. Filmed during the pandemic, this feature film evokes Virginia Woolf&#039;s \u201cown room\u201d and reflects the process of inner emancipation of a young survivor of gender violence repudiated by a sexist and conservative society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the jury of this category, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A room of my own<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stands out \u201cfor accurately and profoundly portraying a woman&#039;s journey towards the discovery of another possible reality of independence and personal freedom; and describe with subtlety and skill how, through the reference of another woman and the care that naturally arises between them, she manages to take the reins of her own life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For its part, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kenya <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the portrait of a trans woman who lives in Mexico City and witnesses how a friend, who is also a transgender sex worker, is murdered by a client. From there, she begins a fight for justice that involves defending her right to be and that of her companions, as well as facing her own fears. The jury has chosen the proposal by the Mexican Gisela Delgadillo as Best Documentary Feature Film for vindicating \u201ca vulnerable and violated group\u201d that is \u201cin struggle against generalized and global oppression.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, they highlight &quot;the narrative treatment that makes the story evolve in line with the proposal, with a main character, Kenya, who is presented naturally, without victimhood or artifice, displaying documentary realism.&quot; They also value \u201ca careful montage\u201d that addresses \u201cthe story of a collective cause full of sincere characters who provide credibility, far from Manichaeism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So much <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A room of my own<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kenya <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been <\/span><b>state premieres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> within the framework of the Humans Fest. In fact, this year the festival had 11 feature films in its Official Section, of which <\/span><b>seven <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been screened for the first time in Spain. They have joined the two winning films in this sense <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The man without guilt<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agitators<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in fiction and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And still I sing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> next to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Old fashion, new life<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in documentary genre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>OFFICIAL SHORT FILM SECTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award to <\/span><b>Best Fiction Short Film<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has fallen into <\/span><b><i>Children's stuff<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by <\/span><b>Bernab\u00e9 Rico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which shows the reactions in an elementary school when a child goes to the Christmas costume party dressed as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Woman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For the jury, it has been crucial to \u201caddress a current and close issue for the public, speaking explicitly about human rights with a feminist perspective and reflecting a constructive and peaceful approach.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, they have decided to grant a special mention in this competitive category to <\/span><b><i>Over Mij<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>Ali Asgari<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &quot;for addressing the issue of female oppression and the importance of sisterhood with sober cinematographic language and very credible performances&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, <\/span><b><i>Hondarrak<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Paula Iglesias<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has been the <\/span><b>Best Documentary Short Film<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A work that talks about the deterioration of the care system through the stories of two women. The jury has chosen him for his \u201cnarrative, photographic, sound and documentary work\u201d, as well as \u201ca very cinematic visual and symbolic narrative that, at the same time, makes its particular social complaint about the human rights of women.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iglesias has collected the award from Cristina Ramon, the president of the Valencian Coordinator of NGOs, who have been an active part of the festival through the involvement of 66 activists who have participated in one way or another.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>RECOGNITIONS IN VALENCIAN KEY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Official Section of Humans Fest includes two awards for Valencian creations. Thus, the award to <\/span><b>Best Valencian Short Film<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been awarded to <\/span><b><i>H\u00e0bitat<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Elena Escura<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cfor its originality and emotionality when dealing with a topic that has lost attention, but that continues to be a reality in the daily lives of many people: evictions,\u201d in the words of the jury. For its part, the EDAV award to <\/span><b>Best Valencian Short Film Script<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been for <\/span><b><i>The way I welcome you<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Amparo Fortuny<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for its \u201cscript where the documentary and testimonial record is skillfully complemented with the fictional record\u201d and for highlighting \u201cthe conflictivity of the right\/duty of welcoming political and\/or economic refugees.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>THE RECOGNITION OF THE YOUNGEST TALENT<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans Fest has a historical section within its official competition: <\/span><b><i>1 minute, 1 right<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose objective is to promote cinema as a tool for defending human rights among the <\/span><b>Valencian students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This year it has been possible thanks to the participation of students from Comenius Center Educatiu, IES Pu\u00e7ol de Pu\u00e7ol, CEIP Angelina Carnicer from Val\u00e8ncia, Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Valencia, Master in Animation from the Polytechnic University of Val\u00e8ncia and La Nau Gran from the University of Valencia. Chosen by public vote, the winning entry has been <\/span><b><i>One day. No more no less<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, made by students of the <\/span><b>CEIP Angelina Carnicer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From Valencia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>jury <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the 14th edition of Humans Fest has been made up of <\/span><b>18 professionals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the cinematographic and social field: Avelina Prat, Laura Herrero Garv\u00edn, Elvira C\u00e1mara L\u00f3pez, Sara Mansanet, Ricardo Maci\u00e1n, Laura Mart\u00ednez, Pilar Mart\u00ednez, Fran Fern\u00e1ndez, Isabelle Mamadou, Lucy Polo, Sixto Garc\u00eda, Eva Garc\u00eda, Elena Belenguer, Gloria March, S\u00e9nia Mulayali, Jordi Juan Mart\u00ednez S\u00e1nchez, Anna Juesas Garc\u00eda and \u00d3scar Valle Garc\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>THE MOST ACCESSIBLE AND PARTICIPATORY EDITION OF HUMANS FEST<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans Fest celebrated its 14th edition from June 1 to 10. During these days they have been projected <\/span><b>40 movies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from different countries, such as Argentina, Morocco, Martinique, Colombia, China, Spain, Mexico, Afghanistan, Slovenia, France and Georgia. Furthermore, the festival has produced and shown <\/span><b>seven short participatory workshops<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the great novelties of this year has been that, thanks to a collaboration agreement between Fundaci\u00f3n por la Justicia and Fundaci\u00f3n <\/span><b>ELEVEN<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, five film sessions have been held with <\/span><b>audio description<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so that people with visual disabilities have been able to enjoy them. Likewise, for the first time in the history of the festival, a video-on-demand platform such as <\/span><b>Filmin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">includes 14 of those 40 films in competition, which expands the reach of Humans Fest to state audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Added to all this are multiple activities in which they have collaborated until <\/span><b>66 activists<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>40 entities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> different. This has been the case of, for example, the so-called <\/span><b><i>Vermouths Humans<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a relaxed discussion to reflect with protagonists of different struggles for human rights. Likewise, the festival has completed its program with a <\/span><b>photojournalism exhibition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The careers will always be ours<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which includes a selection of photos by Eva M\u00e1\u00f1ez about the feminist mobilizations in Valencia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the second consecutive year, the cinema has been taken to the streets of the city for free with the <\/span><b>\u201cfresh\u201d sessions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the courtyard of the CEIP Ballester Fandos, in the Malva-rosa neighborhood, and in the Plaza Jard\u00edn de la Ermita, in the Orriols neighborhood. And finally, a <\/span><b>\u201cauthor cycle\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the hand of <\/span><b>Isabel Coixet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who has received this year&#039;s honorary award, so he not only attended the opening gala, but also starred in a special screening of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My life without me<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a colloquium for the 20th anniversary of its premiere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans Fest is part of the international Human Rights Film Network. Its 14th edition is celebrated thanks to the collaboration of the Conselleria de Cooperaci\u00f3, Diputaci\u00f3 de Val\u00e8ncia, Ajuntament de Val\u00e8ncia, Institut Valenci\u00e0 de Cultura, Caixa Popular and Teika.
