Dr. Pedro Cavadas, a specialist in reconstructive medicine, has been awarded the VIII Prize of the Foundation for Justice, according to sources from the entity. The jury, which made this decision after meeting today, highlighted among his "many" merits his altruistic work in Kenya and other African countries, under conditions of special difficulty.<\/p>\n

Likewise, he stressed his "commitment" to justice in its protective aspect of a human right as basic as health and physical integrity, and the value given to his specific activity and the incentive that Valencian society represents for all professionals to get involved in solidarity causes that recognize the dignity of others and that imply a commitment to especially vulnerable people and communities.<\/p>\n

Reasons such as the protection of health, physical integrity and his work carried out altruistically in Kenya have been definitive for the award of such a reward.<\/p>\n

"The main link between Dr. Cavadas and the Foundation is that we both work for the reconstruction of people's rights," said the president of the foundation, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Tom\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

The jury of the VIII edition of the Foundation for Justice Award was made up of a president, Vicente Berenguer; and by members such as the president of Bancaja, Jos\u00e9 Luis Olivas; the vice president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Fernando de Rosa; the president of the Official Credit Institute (ICO), Aurelio Mart\u00ednez; the general director of the Women's Institute of the Ministry of Equality, Rosa Peris; the president of the Foundation, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Tom\u00e1s; the Government delegate in the Community, Ricardo Peralta; Alejandro Moll\u00e1, representing the University of Valencia; and Lu\u00eds Miguel Romero, representing the lawyers.<\/p>\n

The VIII Foundation for Justice Prize consists of the Gold Badge of the Foundation for Justice, the Diploma accrediting the VIII Foundation for Justice Prize and a financial award amounting to 18,000 euros. The award ceremony for the VIII Foundation for Justice Prize will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., at the Bancaja Cultural Center.<\/p>\n

The previous winners were Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Gonz\u00e1lez, the Tribunal de las Aguas de la Vega of Valencia, the Association of Victims of Terrorism, the Pro-Search Association for Missing Boys and Girls of El Salvador, Professor Muhammad Yunus (Nobel Peace Prize 2006), Bogaletch Gebre and Father Vicente Berenguer.<\/p>\n
