The fight against the pack\u201d (Ondas Award 2024), \u201cThe silence of the others\u201d (Goya Award 2019) and \u201cMade in LA\u201d (Emmy Award 2008)<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the exceptional circumstances following the DANA, the deadline for registration of short film projects is extended until Sunday, November 17<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second edition of Humans Lab, which will include master classes open to the public, will be held from November 29 to December 1<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Humans Lab<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the audiovisual creation laboratory of the International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, Humans Fest, organized by the Foundation for Justice since 2009, continues to advance details about its second edition. Specifically, it has also confirmed the participation of the director and producer <\/span><b>Almudena Carracedo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carracedo will be a mentor for the selected short film projects, which will have a tutored session <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one-to-one<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with her. Likewise, the filmmaker will offer a <\/span><b>Masterclass open to the public<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>The IVC Film Library<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a collaborating entity in this activity. Free online registration for this activity will soon be available, as it will have limited capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almudena Carracedo&#039;s announcement follows that of the director <\/span><b>Carlos Marques-Marcet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who will also be at Humans Lab 2024, which will take place from November 29 to December 1. In addition, those who obtain a place will enjoy a group preparation session for the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pitch <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the hand of the director, screenwriter and producer <\/span><b>Rafa Mol\u00e9s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from Suica Films, as well as a public presentation before several Valencian production companies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CINEMA FROM CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS AND SOCIAL ACTIVISM<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almudena Carracedo (Madrid, 1972) began her professional career as a filmmaker in the United States, where she directed and produced <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Made in LA <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2007), her debut feature-length documentary, tells the story of three migrant women working in a garment factory in Los Angeles fighting for basic labor rights. This work earned her the Emmy Award for Best Documentary in 2008, among other awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Class consciousness and social activism emanating from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Made in LA <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are a constant in Carracedo&#039;s career. Thus, upon his return to Spain at the head of his production company Lucernam Films, he embarked on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Silence of Others<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2018), another documentary that, in this case, addresses the silenced struggle for justice of the victims of the Franco dictatorship. The result of a seven-year process, this work received more than 40 awards, including the Audience Award at the Berlinale, the Goya for Best Documentary Feature, the Emmy for Best Documentary. In addition, it was shortlisted for the Oscars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, Almudena Carracedo has premiered <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are not alone. The fight against the pack<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2024), a portrait of sexual violence against women. Taking as a starting point the group attack suffered by a young woman at the Sanfermines in 2016, this film collects the media treatment of the case and the response of feminism until giving rise to the so-called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#MeToo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This work, which has reached third place in the world ranking of non-English language films on Netflix, has just received the Ondas Award for best documentary. In addition to her extensive list of awards, Carracedo has been named Doctor Honoris Causa by Illinois Wesleyan University and is a member of the Spanish Film Academy, the European Film Academy and the American Film Academy, as well as the Board of Directors of CIMA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>REGISTRATION FOR PROJECTS EXTENDED UNTIL NOVEMBER 17<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the exceptional circumstances following the DANA, although the deadline initially ended on October 31, the Humans Lab organization has decided to accept those projects that have been submitted in the following days and, likewise, extend the registration date. <\/span><b>until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 17<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eligible projects may be <\/span><b>short films of any genre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (fiction, documentary, animation, experimental or hybrid) in development. They must be submitted by their director, scriptwriter and\/or producer through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfwtL2w0mHues8-ZoCVwL9NvkvHO01cg8ts_kQHUQXz2tPjbg\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the form enabled on the Humans Fest website itself<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aim of Humans Lab is to promote the writing of film scripts on human rights, as well as to support authors through training activities. The call is open to anyone of legal age, of any nationality, who can prove studies or experience related to cinema and\/or audiovisual creation. Among the applications received this year: <\/span><b>will be chosen<\/b> <b>five projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of which at least two will be from the Valencian Community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a novelty in 2024, one of those five selected projects will receive, after completing the three days of training, a <\/span><b>Financial endowment of 500 euros<\/b> <b>for the screenwriter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so that it can complete the development phase. To do this, a team will be available <\/span><b>jury<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> formed by producers and\/or professionals from the audiovisual industry, who will assess the originality of the script, the defence of human rights and the viability of production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>ABOUT HUMANS FEST AND HUMANS LAB<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans Fest is one of the main activities promoted by the Foundation for Justice with the aim of defending human rights and denouncing their violations around the world through cinema, a powerful tool and power to raise awareness. It is part of the international Human Rights Film Network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its 15th edition (2024), which includes the Humans Lab, is being held thanks to the collaboration of the Vice-Presidency and Department of Social Services, Equality and Housing, the Valencia Provincial Council, the Equality Department of the Valencia City Council, the Valencian Institute of Culture, Caixa Popular and Teika.
